Trans abdominal or trans dermal ultrasound scan to assess arteries in the neck (carotid), kidneys (renal) or abdomen (aorta).

Some warm gel is applied to skin over the region of interest and a probe is used to transmit ultrasound images to the screen for interpretation.

These scans are to assess the carotid arteries in the neck, the arteries to the kidneys or abdomen to look for signs of artery disease like plaque formation, stenosis, and blockages.

How long it takes

30-60 min




No preparation required for the scans except abdominal vascular scans. For these please have water only for 6 hours prior to the appointment.

What to expect

The sonographer will discuss the results with you . These results will be with your referrer in 1-2 days.

If urgent the sonographer will phone your referrer.
