These scans are to look for a DVT ( Deep Vein Thrombosis) in the deep veins of the legs or arms.

Some warm gel is applied to skin over the region of interest and a probe is used to transmit ultrasound images to the screen for interpretation. These scans are to assess the veins of the upper or lower limb.

These scans are done to look for signs of deep vein thrombosis (DVT).

When are they done

Any time but usually these scans are to be done urgently on the same day as your doctor’s appointment.

What to expect

The sonographer will discuss the results with you. These results will be faxed to your referrer urgently. The sonographer will also phone your referrer and provide you with instructions from your doctor on what you are to do after the scan.
