Trans-abdominal ultrasound scan.

A fun and enjoyable scan for you to see your baby and watch it move.

maternal request scanTrans-abdominal ultrasound scan. Some warm gel is applied to your lower abdomen and a probe is used to transmit ultrasound images to the screen for interpretation.

This is a non-medical scan that is fun and enjoyable for you to see your baby come alive on 3 and 4D scanning.

4D is live 3D - so you can watch your baby suck its thumb, smile and move.

If the sonographer notices something concerning with your baby she will advise you and record it accordingly but it must be stressed again that this is not a formal assessment of your baby.

Why have it done

This scan can be requested without a referral. The scan is for you and your partner to enjoy. Extended family is welcome.

When to have it done

The best time for these scans is between 26 and 32 weeks. We can do them up to term but the success rate of getting good images is reduced after 32 weeks as the baby’s head is often too low in the pelvis and we cannot see the face adequately.

How long it takes

$350.00 This includes a live recording and several images on a USB stick and a special gift from the team here at Ponsonby Ultrasound.

We must have a copy of your anatomy scan prior to the beginning of the scan. We ask you to sign a consent form outlining the details of the scan.
