Trans-abdominal ultrasound scan. Some warm gel is applied to your lower abdomen and a probe is used to transmit ultrasound images to the screen for interpretation.

Why they are done

This scan may be required in between growth scans to assess baby’s well-being. The scan consists of fluid assessment and Doppler studies of the blood flow.

When they are done

These scans can be ordered by your midwife at any stage from late second trimester and are performed in between growth scans.

How long it takes

15-20 min


$50.00 for each visit. A short 3D scan is included if possible.

If you think you may need multiple scans then we do offer a pregnancy package. This must be booked at the time of your NT scan.

How to prepare

No preparation is required.

You must bring your referral with you. We cannot scan you without the referral from you doctor or midwife.

What to expect

The sonographer will discuss the results with you. These results will be with your referrer in 1-2 days.

If there are any concerns with your pregnancy the sonographer will phone your referrer and organise the report to be faxed urgently.
